After spending some weeks at Parkhotel Mondschein to create some new artwork Lisa Dengler will display some of her creations at the Luna Bar of Parkhotel Mondschein.
I always approach my art starting with the material and how it connects to a feeling. After visiting Mondschein a few times, it was the warmth and calmness and peace that I always left with, and that’s what made me long to come back. So, for me, the natural choice for making sculptures for the space was wood. It’s a warm and soft material, that’s able to tell a story through a feeling.
In terms of form, I tend to do this quite intuitively, and I tend towards the feminine. This is a specific kind of energy that I also feel deeply connected to with the moon. The rhythm of time passing in cycles. A quiet strength that is both mysterious and sensual. For this series for Parkhotel Mondschein it will be a study of the feminine form standing tall in it’s power, informed and inspired by the moon that I’ve been observing through my window as these weeks have gone by.
As the start of her formal training in the visual field, Lisa Dengler acquired a BA in Architecture near Toronto and in doing so worked with architecture firms in Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Germany. She continued to explore and manifest her visual language through a career in fashion, graphic design, and photography.
In an act of opposition to the fast-paced and constantly fleeting, consumption-based landscape she had found herself working in, she began stone carving in her Brooklyn studio with just a hammer and chisel.
She continues to explore various artistic media and processes in her studio in Mexico City and around the world, focusing on natural materials and classical techniques from a contemporary perspective.
